Aliens: Matrix is a graphic novel that was planned for publication by Dark Horse Comics in the UK-released Aliens Magazine, Vol. 2 #23 in May, 1994. The story was written by acclaimed comics writer Grant Morrison and illustrated by Chris Halls (aka Chris Cunningham).

This issue of Aliens Magazine may only have been solicited but never actually released, as [[Aliens Magazine #21 appears to have been the last issue ever published due to Dark Horse's British publishing partner at the time, Trident Comics, going out of business.

In the Aliens comics line, Matrix was to have been published concurrently with Aliens: Stronghold (May-Sept. 1994) and would have been followed by the original serialization of Aliens: Mondo Pest (June.-Aug. 1994) and Aliens: Earth Angel (Aug. 1994).

Behind the Scenes

This ultra-rare Aliens story is one of the few UK Aliens Magazine comics to have never been reprinted or released in the United States (or perhaps anywhere), along with other UK-only releases Aliens: Countdown, Aliens: Renegade and the incomplete Aliens: Crusade.

They are currently generally only available via online download. The prolific writer Grant Morrison has gone on to much fame in the comics medium as writer of such titles as DC's Batman, Batman: Arkham Asylum and All-Star Superman and DC/Vertigo's Animal Man and The Invisibles, among other works. Interestingly, Morrison went on to write the 2005 video game Predator: Concrete Jungle.

Chris Cunningham, who worked as a conceptual illustrator and comics artist under the name Chris Halls, has also worked as a music video and commercial director and movie concept artist and designer, most notably working on robots in the film version of Judge Dredd (for which comic he designed a number of well known characters) and as a character designer in the film Alien Resurrection.
